Audio Authority's new 979T and 979R D/A and A/D converters are versatile and useful for a number of challenging applications. Click through the link to view three application examples featuring the new audio converters.
![]() | Analog to Digital Audio The 979T is perfect for converting an analog audio-only source to digital optical or digital coaxial format. In this example, a legacy audio source such as a tape deck or VCR can be converted to 2.0 PCM for integration with an amplifier's digital input.
![]() | Digital to Analog Audio When a digital audio-only source needs to be integrated with an analog audio-only device, the 979R fits the bill. In this application, the 979R accepts digital optical or digital coaxial output from an HDTV's ATSC tuner, and converts it to 2-channel analog for an audio amplifier.

Analog Audio Through a Digital Audio Balun Most baluns only carry Component Video and digital coaxial audio. So what is an integrator to do when analog audio is needed? A combination of the 979T and 979R can add analog capability to a digital-only balun. In the diagram above, an analog audio source is transformed to 2.0 PCM digital by the 979T, is transmitted through the digital audio channel of the balun, and using a 979R, is converted to analog to connect with an analog audio-only HDTV. The result? Analog audio through a digital-only balun!
