Source and Control Lockout for the AVAtrix

Did you know that the latest firmware update for the AVAtrix added source and control lockout features? As part of Audio Authority's continuing commitment to improve our products, new firmware has been released, including unique tools to limit viewing and control when desired. Firmware version 2.6 (AVX-561/AVX-661) and firmware version 1.0 (AVX-562) carry the new features. The settings can be programmed through the AVAtrix itself, or through the PC Setup Utility program. The Restrictions screen is pictured here.

The new features are described below, with explanations of how they are used in a typical installation. To download the latest firmware please visit the support page on our website.

Source Lockout
This unique set of features allows an integrator to implement a number of new restrictions based on the desired result. For instance, a source can now be permanently locked out, or restricted from viewing in particular zones. If parents only want their children to be able to access a certain DVR, an installer can lock out all other sources from that zone at the time of setup. Any number of sources can be allowed or restricted based on initial setup.

Private Viewing
Private Viewing allows a user to temporarily restrict a source to a specific zone or group for uninterrupted or unobserved viewing. This feature is great when someone sits down to watch a game or movie, and wishes to watch in privacy. While the private viewing feature is active, no other zone can view the source. This feature can be manually deactivated, and also times out after 300 minutes (5 hours) in case the user doesn't remember to remove the restriction when the movie ends.

Control Lockout
One aggravating aspect of matrix integration is "source stealing" - a source is being viewed in one room, and someone in another zone "takes over" by selecting that source and changing the channel. A simple button sequence on the remote control activates control lockout, allowing only that zone to control the source for 300 minutes, or until the lockout is manually removed. With control lockout activated, other zones can view the source, but can't control it.
