Application Example:

The AVAtrix and Distributed Audio

It's no surprise that custom integrators want to use the AVAtrix in conjunction with distributed audio systems. After all, the idea is to hide the source equipment in a central location, rather than clutter up each room where the media is to be enjoyed. It follows that there must be a way to gain access to the audio signals at the head end, before they are transmitted to the remote zones. Our Model 1172BK provides an elegant answer to that need.

Q: "What is the 1172?"
A: The Model 1172 Audio Interface connects to the AVAtrix internal signal bus, providing a breakout point for digital and analog audio. Any audio system can connect to the 1172 and use these audio signals for whole house distribution.

Q: "How do I coordinate the audio from the sources to each room?"
A: The 1172 has two modes, so whether your distributed audio system has a dedicated amp for each room, or has its own integrated switching, the AVAtrix can provide audio signals from all of your video sources. Click for details about Source Mode and Tracking Mode.

Q: "What if I want to use the whole house audio system in some rooms, but place a dedicated home theater receiver and speaker system in other rooms?"
A: No problem. The 1172 provides analog and/or digital audio to a distributed audio system, but the AVAtrix still provides the same signals to the remote zone. In each zone you can use either the distributed audio system, a dedicated room system, or both if required!

Q: "What about IR?"
A: The 1172 has a built in IR router. Audio systems with integral switching can handle IR separately from the AVAtrix system, but systems with dedicated amplifiers may need IR input from each room for volume control. Each audio output on the 1172 has an IR out jack that can relay volume commands from the zones to dedicated room amplifiers.
