Service Bulletin - Medium Priority
DirecTV / AVAtrix IR Compatibility
Models Affected: AVX-561, AVX-562, AVM-562, AVX-661, 1156, 1166, 1176, 1170 Reason for Notice: Compatibility issues with DirecTV satellite receivers and AVAtrix IR routing when using certain Infrared receivers. Disposition: All IR receivers introduce some amount of error into the IR data stream. Most IR controlled equipment makes allowances for variances through its internal IR receiving circuitry. New DirecTV HD receivers in the H20/HR20 and H21/HR21 series exhibit greatly reduced tolerance for such error, leading to potential control problems, such as missed or duplicated commands. Depending upon the amount of error that your IR receivers introduce, and the tolerance of source devices being controlled (STB's, DVD Players, etc...), it is possible to encounter compatibility issues when using the AVAtrix IR control pathway. Solution: To solve this problem, Audio Authority recommends trying with different types and brands of IR receivers, and experimenting with placement in the viewing area. We recommend plasma and LCD friendly receivers that introduce a negligible amount of error into the IR signal. This should reduce incompatibilities with source equipment and greatly reduce your setup and troubleshooting time. Updating the AVAtrix to the latest firmware version can also resolve some compatibility issues. The latest firmware download can be found here.
