Timeout does not function correctly | Return to default settings by turning on the switches indicated for your system (see switch settings). |
Alarm has been tripped | Insert a programmed key in the alarm port under the shelf. This silences the alarm and disables the alarm system. Connect any products that have been disconnected, and remove the key. Test the system by disconnecting a product. When the alarm sounds, insert the key again to reset the alarm. If the alarm does not sound, check connections and replace faulty cables if necessary, then test again.
|
Key does not work | - Insert the key in the alarm port, under the shelf (not in a product audio port or extension cable).
- If the key has not been programmed, insert a programmed key and then insert the non-working key to program it. Test the new key.
- If the key does not work, remove power from the demo system and re-apply power. This resets the system to protect only positions that are still connected via the audio cable. With the key removed, unplug each audio cable to find products that do not trip the alarm. Follow instructions below for products that do not trip the alarm.
|
A product has been removed | Insert a key to silence the alarm. Leave the key in while you connect the product again. If there is no product to connect in that position, simply remove the key. The system does not protect positions that have no product connected at the moment the key is removed.

The alarm does not trip for a particular product
| - First, check to make sure the audio connections from the product to the extension cable or retractor, to the 1710A are plugged in all the way. Try replacing the extension cable if necessary.
- Check the 1710A Theft Detect switches. If a switch is OFF, that position's alarm has been deactivated. This may have been done on purpose, in which case you must secure the product by other means.
- If headphones or sound dock do not trip an active alarm when disconnected, the product cannot be protected by the alarm because of its particular electrical design. The product is still fully compatible with the audio demonstration system. Turn off the alarm for that position and secure the product by other means. If a product sets off a false alarm, see next solution.
|
A product sets off the alarm (false alarm) | Some products may set the alarm off even when they are still connected. There are two possibilities:
- The product is not compatible with the alarm when connected through a patch cable. Plug the product into the output directly, instead of using a 3.5mm extension cord.
- The headphones or sound dock have controls that alter the audio signal, setting off a false alarm. If you cannot disable or prevent customer access to those controls, turn off the alarm for that position and secure the product by other means.
|
No audio on one product | - The product may be off. Some speaker docks have a power switch that can be pressed underneath the product.
- If the product has volume control, check the volume setting to see if it is turned down or muted.
- Otherwise, the product may not be properly connected to the demo system. Check connections including the direct connection to the 1710A. Try using a known-good cable or extension cable. If that solves the problem, the exension cable or recoiler cable is faulty. Replace the cable. Remove the key and test the new cable with the alarm by disconnecting the cable from the product.
|
No audio on any product | Check the SD card. Make certain the card is fully inserted into the 1701 card slot. If new audio files have been copied to the card, see the next solution. Check the connections from the 1701 audio player to the 1710A distribution amplifiers. Replace the audio patch cord if it is faulty.
|
Audio files do not play | - SD card must be properly formatted - see 1701 Manual
1014.06 KiB - Use only MP3 files or WAV files
- Filenames must end with .mp3 or .wav extensions
- Files must not be inside a directory or folder (copy them to the root)
- WAV files must not have a sample rate over 48kHz
