Mini-GPUs for Experimental and Certified Aircraft

Last week we announced three low-cost ground power units (GPUs) designed specifically for 12/14V Experimental Amateur-Built (E/A-B) aircraft, 12/14V certified and 24/28V certified aircraft. These compact, portable GPUs provide airframe power without the aircraft’s engine or battery to enable tasks such as:

  • avionics demonstration and testing
  • database and firmware updates
  • flight planning and cockpit procedures training
  • troubleshooting & maintenance
  • battery top-off charging
  • powered pre-flight inspections

These new designs are the first under our White Lightning™ brand of electronics. The distinctive trademark reflects our legacy of aviation products with highly visible white enclosures. The lightning bolt denotes abundant power and the stylized barrel honors the brand’s Central Kentucky heritage where “white lightning” enjoys special appreciation.

All three models use color-coded, polarized, and keyed output connectors to prevent aircraft damage from voltage mismatch. Each features rugged construction with a collapsible carrying strap, cooling fan, digital volt/amp meters, and universal input compatibility: 85-264VAC 47-63Hz.

  • Model M1435-EXP: Tailored to the needs of the E/A-B market for aircraft with 12/14V electrical systems. Includes an Airframe Interface Kit to permanently wire a quick-connect polarized receptacle to the aircraft’s battery/electrical bus. Output is fixed at 14.25VDC and can supply up to 35A maximum continuous power. An 8’ output cable is included. The EXP-1435 is priced at US$445.00.

  • Model M1435: For 12/14V certified aircraft. Similar to above, but output cable is terminated with standard AN2551 3-pin oval plug, common to most certified aircraft. A round Piper-style 2-pin plug is also available. Price: US$485.00.

  • Model M2827: For 24/28V certified aircraft. Output is fixed at 28.5VDC with a maximum continuous output of 27A. Supplied 6’ output cable terminated with standard AN2551 3-pin oval plug. Price US$595.00.

Pre-orders are being accepted at www.audioauthority.com/mini-gpu, or through distributors Aircraft Spruce & Specialty, and Sporty’s Pilot Shop. Units will begin shipping late 2021.
